Frequently asked questions

Can I follow you on social media?

You  are welcome to follow our professional social media pages. We don’t follow, friend, comment, respond, or make other similar connections on social media with clients, or their family members or friends. This is to protect your confidentiality and privacy. If you choose to follow us on social media, it is at your own risk. Please note, this is not a way to contact us for any reason, especially in the event of an emergency.

What If I don't know what my goals are for therapy?

If you aren't sure what your goals are for therapy, your first goal is to figure that out. It may take several sessions before a direction is clarified. During the course of therapy your goals may change. However, establishing a direction for therapy will help you get the most out of the experience.

Is therapy confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a therapist. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are a number of exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm themselves. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety

What is an EAP?

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS (EAPs) are an employee benefit program offered by many employers. Employers pre-pay or cover the costs. Employees and their covered family members can utilize the confidential counseling benefits at no cost. EAPs are intended to help employees deal with personal issues that might adversely impact their work performance, health, and well-being.

What if my insurance doesn’t cover therapy?

If you would like to see a provider at Unique Therapy even though we are not on your insurance, we can provide specialized receipts (called “superbills”) that you can submit to your insurance provider. If the services are accepted by your insurance, they would then reimburse you at their out-of-network rate.

Why would I want to pay out of pocket?

Paying out of pocket can mean a greater personal investment in your therapy, which can lead to getting more out of it. For some, this investment may not be feasible – in which case, we can help you find alternatives. However, there are also some advantages to consider if you do not go through insurance.

  • Paying out of pocket means that your therapy experience is more private – none of your records, diagnostic information, or authorization for services must go through insurance.
  • You may feel particularly connected with one of our therapists who is unable to take insurance, in which case paying out of pocket will allow you to work with someone who feels like a strong fit for you.
